Abstract

|
An ecological survey of early childhood nutrition was conducted from July 3 to 11, 1981, to investigate weaning practices, pattern of meal and snack, and food preferences in Yongin-gun, Kyonggi-doThis study covered a total of 309 young children from one to six-year old.
Only 32.6% of the subjects began to be fed supplementary food before the age of six months. As for-age of termination of breast feeding 74.8% of the subjects were at or before 12 months; 17.4 % were between 13 to 18 months of age; and 7.876 were more than 19 months old.
The simplest meal was served to those children for lunch among the daily meal.¢¥¢¥ Energy intake was divided among breakfast lunch, evening meal, and snacks in percent of 24: 22: 22: 32. Respondents liked rice, bread, noodle, potatoes, fruits, milk, yogurt, ice cream, lean meat, chicken,¡¯¡¯ egg, in contrast to the lowest preference for vegetables such as eggplant, watercress, green onion, green¢¥, pepper, garland chrysanthemum. Peppery and strongly flavored meals, and rice cooked with beans were: also disliked.
